The images of the book »13« are taken from Anne-Lena Michel’s photographic archive almost 15 years after she took the photographs of at that time thirteen-year-old Léa in 2001 in Paris. The images document on the one hand self-stagings of a thirteen year-old girl in a bourgeois Parisian environment: The portrayed person plays different female connoted roles by the means of various disguises and displays these roles with skilful self-promotion and a certain lasciviousness and diva-attitude towards the camera. On the other hand the images show everyday situations of childish self-forgetfulness that seem to be photographed without any awareness of the camera’s presence.
